Artificial Intelligence (AI) is drawing pictures, writing books, and even creating natural-looking avatars. It’s no wonder that this field has captured the attention of the public and the media. But what can AI realistically do to help our overburdened healthcare systems? This session will explore the (relatively long) history of AI in medicine, from reading medical imaging to detecting heart arrhythmias. Newer applications can detect COVID infections before symptoms appear, improve adaptive hearing device performance, and increase medication adherence. Join top experts in a range of fields as they delve into the boundaries of how AI can – and cannot – help with healthcare applications.

Panel 1: One important use of AI is the detection – and potential diagnosis – of disease. What are the risks and rewards?

Panel 2: Once a disease has been diagnosed, AI can play a role in determining the most effective treatments. How is AI technology supporting medical professionals, and where can we expect it to lead?
