Sustainable Wireless Battery-Free and Chip-Free Sensors and IDs

The Future of Electronics RESHAPED 2025

21-10-25T15:05:00

Berlin, Germany

Estrel

Wireless sensing is key to making supply chain, industrial operations, and energy production more sustainable. Yet, the maintenance and environmental of batteries and chips used is a major hindrance. This talk will introduce circularity- and sustainability-driven sensing methods from Glasgow's Green Electronics Lab, and the spin-out RX Watt Ltd., using battery-free and chip-free devices in RF sensing and identification.

The talk will cover the deployment and field testing of RF power delivery in harsh industrial environment and the prospect of passive RF-based detection. The unnoticed environmental footprint of battery- and RFID-based sensing solutions will be introduced through life-cycle assessments (LCAs), showing how sustainable sensing could be achieved with fewer, or no, chips.
